A dog and guinea pig who look like TWINS due to their identical black and white markings have struck up an unlikely friendship and melted hearts online.
Despite being two completely different species, animal lover Tahnee Reid said she has never seen a better friendship than the bond shared between pup Mr Jenkins, three, and guinea pig Maple, five.
The 35-year-old, from the Blue Mountains, New South Wales, Australia, said at first she was apprehensive about how quiet Maple would react when she bought home boisterous Boston Terrier Mr Jenkins three years ago – but the adorable pair hit it off straight away.
Mortician Tahnee has put their unlikely friendship down to the fact that they have more in common than first meets the eye – as the besties both love napping and eating carrots, and most importantly have identical black and white markings.
She said: “I really can’t believe how close they are to each other. They’re total best friends.
“At first I thought Mr Jenkins would be too much for Maple. But they just adore each other.
“I think their friendship first blossomed over their mutual love of carrots. I’d give one to them each and they would just hang out and eat them together, enjoying each other’s company.
“Their bond grew from there and Maple now follows Mr Jenkins everywhere. She is his little shadow, and I think he secretly likes the fact he has a little sidekick next to him.
“Even though he is younger, Mr Jenkins really takes on the parental role with Maple. He checks in on her and is happy to give her a groom throughout the day.
“They really do have this amazing and strange little friendship. It captures the hearts of everyone that meets them or sees their photos.”
Tahnee recently shared a photo of Mr Jenkins and Maple online where it quickly went viral – racking up over 10,000 likes and shares in a matter of hours.
And the black and white chaos continued when Tahnee’s sister comes over with her chihuahua Gigi, seven, who remarkably happens to have the same pattern as his cousins.
She said: “When Gigi comes to play, it’s monochromatic mayhem. It’s so funny that they look alike.
“My favourite thing about Mr Jenkins and Maple is how cute they are together. They are the best looking couple out there.
“I think it is incredible that two completely different animals can form such a strong bond.
“It just goes to show that friendships and relationships really have no barriers.”
